Ecotic and FEGiCAT renew their collaboration to promote WEEE recycling in installation companies

The new agreement establishes lines of action aimed at increasing the collection of waste air conditioning and refrigeration equipment, mainly air conditioners.

Ecotic and the Federation of Installers’ Guilds of Catalonia (FEGiCAT) have renewed the collaboration agreement that both entities have maintained since 2017, which aims to increase the levels of recycling of waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) generated in the professional activity of installers.

To this end, both entities will collaborate to improve and facilitate the recycling of this waste among the installers and companies adhered to FEGiCATwhich currently represents 20 associations and 5,600 companies, accumulating a turnover of 1,350 million euros and representing 80% of the sector.

The new agreement establishes several lines of action for this purpose, especially aimed at increasing the levels of collection of waste air conditioning and refrigeration equipment, mainly air conditioners, which are far from the optimum desirable levels compared to other types of WEEE.

The development of integrated solutions for waste recycling is one of the essential aspects to achieve this goal. Therefore, both entities will collaborate in the promotion and dissemination of the Ecoinstaladores program among professionals of the installation sector, an initiative promoted by
Ecotic
and specifically designed to meet their needs in terms of waste management.

Ecoinstallers

In addition, installers can avail of services such as free advice on good practices in the installation and de-installation of equipment and their responsibilities in terms of waste management, support in the processing of associated documentation, free collection of WEEE at the installer’s own facilities, or financial compensation for the costs of reverse logistics and storage of waste.

FEGiCAT
will collaborate in the diffusion of the activities among its associates in an active way, through promotional materials of the developed initiatives, the public diffusion of these through its communication channels, and the cession of its facilities for the development of the foreseen training activities.

The collaboration will be monitored by a technical working group in charge of analyzing the sector and detecting the needs of the installation companies in order to adapt and improve the activities carried out to provide them with the best solutions to increase waste collection levels.

Andreu Vilà, general manager of
Ecotic
emphasized that “the commitment of the installation sector is essential to ensure that waste such as air conditioners, which have a great potential negative impact on the environment, are properly recycled”. In this sense, he has valued “the invaluable collaboration of entities with whom we share values such as
FEGiCAT
which are fundamental to achieve the involvement of professionals”.

For his part, Raúl Rodríguez, general director of
FEGiCAT
has valued “the need to continue to value the key role of the sector for the protection of the environment and the development of the circular economy”. For this reason, he has stressed that “initiatives such as
Ecoinstaladores
provide solutions tailored to the real needs of installers, who often find themselves in situations of doubt or uncertainty in the face of the extensive and complex regulations governing waste management”.
